Submerged Entry Nozzle

What is  Submerged Entry Nozzle?

A submerged entry nozzle (SEN), a tube-shaped device composed of refractory, is used to conduct molten steel from the tundish to the mold during continuous casting of steel. During the process, the SEN serves to protect the melt from oxidation and to stabilize the casting process. Submerged Entry Nozzle and Shrouds are designed to protect the steel flow from the Tundish to the mould. Sub-Entry Nozzle is fixed inside the tundish similar to a Tundish Nozzle, while the sub-entry shroud is fitted from the outside on the Tundish Nozzle.

Submerged entry nozzle (SEN), a tube-shaped device composed of refractory, is used to conduct molten steel from the tundish to the mold during continuous casting of steel. During the process, the SEN serves to protect the melt from oxidation and to stabilize the casting process.

The sumberged entry nozzle serve to protect the molten steel casting between tundish and crystalizer vessel.it controls the molten steel flow rate, stop the molten steel and adjust the flow direction. Our Submerged Entry Nozzles are optimized for the requirement of each customer. We can optimize the size and design of the nozzle with the aid of our water model. We produce all common designs like quick-change, mono-type or fin-type for thin slab casters.

Submerged Entry Nozzle Advantages:

It has good properties such as excellent thermal resistance, good reliability, high anti-errosion strength and anti-mechanic crack. Each batch of products shall be through strict Non-destructive test before release.

Submerged Entry Nozzle Features:

Zirconia slag-line protection
Outlet port design
Anti-clogging liner
Anti-inclusion liner
Full vitrified glaze protection prior to preheat
Seating composite material sequence casting

Submerged Entry Nozzle Application:

Submerged Entry Nozzle (SEN) are usually made from a combination of carbon bonded alumina, zirconia and magnesia with graphite, which have been found to give the best response to the extreme demands of thermal shock, corrosion and erosion resistance.

Adequate preheating of the submerged entry nozzle (SEN) is important to avoid problems such as thermal cracks and skulling, and depends on torch configuration, fuel, SEN geometry and other factors. Continuous casting is the most important method of producing ingot in the world. The controlling parts of melts are shroud, stopper and submerged entry nozzle (SEN), which are special refractories. Among the special refractory components, SEN is very important. The duty of SEN is pouring the liquid steel from tundish to crystallizator.

The submerged entry nozzle (SEN) has been used to transport the molten steel from tundish to the mould. The main purpose of the SEN usage is both to prevent oxygen and nitrogen pick-up by molten steel and to achieve the desired flow condition in the mould. Therefore, the submerged entry nozzle can be considered as a vital factor for a stable casting process and the steel quality. Furthermore, the steelmaking processes occur at high temperatures around 1873 K so the interaction between the refractory materials of the submerged entry nozzle and molten steel is unavoidable. Therefore, the knowledge of the submerged entry nozzle behaviors during pre-heating and casting is necessary for the design of the steelmaking processes.
